What does it feel like to ride 150 kilometers in a single day?
Actually, the original plan was to ride 280 kilometers directly!
I started commuting by bike every day in the early days, about 23 kilometers in a little over an hour. After riding for a while, I felt that it was nothing. I suddenly thought about riding a bike home. When I was a child, my father said that it took six or seven days to ride from my hometown to Shanghai. After riding for a while, I felt that I should be able to do it.
I searched the navigation and found that the distance was 280 kilometers. At the usual speed of 20 hours per hour, it would only take 14 hours. I could ride back in one day. Yes, I was so confident.
The earliest plan
I saw a question on Monday a few days ago, "What should I pay attention to when riding 450 kilometers in three and a half days?"
Hey, isn't this simple? It mainly depends on two key issues. First, make sure you can ride 100 kilometers every day. If you can't ride it, it's useless; then the supplies, mobile phones, equipment, etc. can last at least one day. If there is no village or store on the road, it will be dead.
I turned my head and thought, damn, it's still unclear whether I can ride it down by myself. I'm still fooling people here. I'm a dog head.
I opened the map and saw that the scenery should be good in the farther distance. Hey, Dishui Lake is good, about 70 one-way, 140 round trip, estimated time 7 hours, the actual riding time is of reference significance to me and the equipment, I looked at the weather forecast, searched the situation of Dishui Lake on the Internet, and decided to take action on Saturday.
Sometimes an idea and some simple verification can make a decision.
Must try riding, otherwise the story of riding in Sichuan without even leaving Shanghai will be repeated.
Preparation
I bought it in early May and it has been 2500 kilometers in three months. It happened that I was going to go for a long-distance ride on Saturday, so it was time to check it. As a result, I found that I didn’t pay attention to maintenance and riding habits. The chain began to rust and the inside was obviously worn. The chainring gears were seriously worn, but it was out of stock. I was worried that it would affect the plan. I confirmed with the technical guy that I could still ride a few hundred kilometers, so I was relieved.
Purchased a helmet. Yes, I haven’t worn a helmet for 3 months. I bought a 20-liter large bag. The capacity of the small bag for commuting is too small. I have to praise the quality of Decathlon's products here. A simple windshield costs less than 30 yuan. The most maintenance is to rinse it with tap water and wipe it with a paper towel. It is very good to use. There are no obvious scratches on it so far, not to mention other equipment and protective gear I bought. Don't ask me why I don't buy big brands. The reason is that I am poor.
I went to the supermarket after get off work on Friday and bought a lot of water, drinks and some fast food. I had a lot of things to do during the day and I thought about this a lot. In the end, I forgot to do something that someone asked me to do a long time ago. It was so embarrassing.
Confirm the travel equipment at night:
The car is ready, so I won't say much. Goggles, helmets, ice sleeves, masks for sun protection and wind protection. Then I found that there was no sunscreen, so I used Dabao to temporarily replace it;
Cycling clothes are simple sports quick-drying clothes and pants. I personally don't like cycling pants, which are ugly, so I prepared an extra set of spare clothes, plus a car seat cushion;
Other supplies, mobile phone, Bluetooth headset, mobile power supply, data cable, a bottle of 1.5 liter Yibao mineral water, a bottle of salt soda, a can of eight-treasure porridge and a can of mung bean soup, and some bulk bread, instant chicken breast, and ham sausage.
Cycling
It is mainly divided into the outward and return journeys. The routes are different and the distances are also a little different. The total journey is 150 kilometers.
I was a little excited when I set off at 8 o'clock in the morning, but reality gave me a hard blow not long after. The ferry actually waited for more than 30 minutes. If I didn't catch it, I estimated that I would have to wait for at least 45 minutes. My mentality was a bit blown, but there was a little episode on the ferry. An old man saw me wearing all my gear and said it was very cool and wanted to take a photo of me. Wow, I was really happy.
I finally crossed the river, listening to music with lightning and sparks all the way.
The most difficult part was riding about 40 kilometers, when my physical strength reached a certain limit, and then the navigation pointed me to several country roads, one of which was still under construction, and it was bumpy all the way. I replenished some water while waiting for a red light at an intersection.
I came across a store with a refrigerator for drinks at the door, and grapes were sold next to it. Suddenly I wanted to go up and say, I'll buy some grapes to keep them cold for me, and come over in the afternoon and eat them together.
The last 15 kilometers were a long straight road, with a mixture of navigation sounds, music sounds, earphones with no battery warning sounds, and the irritability of riding alone for a long time. Fortunately, I looked at the navigation and knew that it would take more than half an hour to arrive, so I had a psychological bottom line.
There were no pedestrians or electric bikes on 80% of the route, only cyclists passing by quickly. On the way, I met a cycling team that was probably on the way back. Finally, when we were about to reach Dishui Lake, we found another cycling team of three people and arrived at the destination with them.
I thought it was the farthest cycling distance.
Then I rested and stretched not far from the photo taking place, replenished water and ate some food. I ate the chicken breast with gritted teeth, and ate a can of mung bean soup with a lot of water.
Dishui Lake is very close to the seaside. It looked about 5 kilometers away. I thought that since I came here, I don’t know when I will go to see the sea again next time. After resting, I continued to ride. The three-person team had set off for a while, and I didn’t know what the distance was.
Most of the people who went to the beach were with children. They seemed to be kindergarten and elementary school students. There seemed to be very few people who were too big or too small, or without children. The others were generally older uncles and aunts.
Return
I replenished some water at a roadside stall and started the return journey at about one o'clock.
On the way here, I basically didn't take a break except for the ferry and waiting for the traffic lights. On the way back, I felt a little groggy when I rode 20 kilometers. Finally, I found a supermarket on the side of the road, bought some drinks and mineral water, and rested for a while before I recovered.
Before the return trip, the mobile phone and Bluetooth headset were fully charged, but the in-ear headset was uncomfortable after a long time, so I just turned on the navigation. Along the way, there were only the voices of cars, Xia Yike, and various thoughts in my heart. This road is so damn long! This road should be repaired! Damn, this car must be driven by a novice. What the hell is installed on the tricycle? It spilled water all over the ground. Damn, my legs are tanned (I was wearing shorts), but fortunately I bought a helmet and an ice sleeve mask. Ouch, my hands hurt when I wiped them.
I encountered several familiar places, the place where I returned to Shanghai to work for the first time in 15 years after retiring from the army, a place with a very lively atmosphere and very similar to the memory of Shanghai when I was a child, and several familiar intersections.
I thought it was easy to run into potholes when taking shortcuts, but I didn't expect that the main road would also be under construction! A long section of the Hunan Highway was under construction!
I caught up before the ferry left the shore. I didn't eat much that day, so I finished the remaining eight-treasure porridge and another bottle of water. I got off the ferry and took the usual route home from get off work.
I weighed 130 on the scale, which was 135 the night before. I lost 5 kilograms after drinking nearly 4 liters of water. The amount of sweat and exercise today was enough. I stretched, rested, took a shower, and took a nap.
Feeling
As if I was hollowed out~
I felt more than once on the road, oh my god, why did I ride so far, is it because the game is not fun or the air conditioning is not good? Next time, I will never ride again, ride home? Unless I am crazy, cancel the plan!
But after I recovered, like today, if someone called me to go somewhere to play by bike, oh the scenery is good and the distance is not far. I suddenly dare not say no? Not necessarily. . .
But I still need to think about riding home...
Experience & Lessons
Most of the equipment I thought about beforehand was used, such as power bank, helmet, ice sleeve mask and goggles. The big bottle of mineral water is very useful and not expensive.
Comfort is very important. The straps of a 20-liter backpack are easy to rub the back of the neck. It is not only painful to keep pressing with your hands, but also slipping due to sweat. The last 20 kilometers were a struggle with neck pain and hand pain. In comparison, the sunburn and tanning on the legs are not important at all.
Be sure to buy gloves later, and adjust the backpack. If it cannot be adjusted, replace it. The cushion cover also played a big role. It is hard to imagine that my butt would not hurt after riding for a day. If my neck, hands, and butt hurt, I would not ride after that. Of course, it is not difficult to bring a bottle of sunscreen.
Test rides such as test rides are very important. If I did not test ride Dishui Lake, I would have ridden directly home...
